The SHARP 40-inch Large Swing Lathe is a robust and highly capable machine engineered for extreme turning requirements. This lathe is an ideal solution for specialized industries such as oil field pipe works and the machining of big valves, accommodating workpieces with a 40-inch swing over the bed and offering a flexible center distance range from 60 to 315 inches. Its most prominent feature is the versatility of its spindle bore, available in a standard 6 inches and optional sizes up to 9 inches, 12 inches, and a massive 15 inches, making it suitable for large diameter tubing and demanding parts.

The foundation of the lathe is a massive one-piece casting machine base that is fully ribbed to prevent distortion even under the most heavy cutting conditions. The durability and precision are secured by the oversized 24-inch wide bedways, which are induction hardened and ground for long-lasting accuracy. An important additional third bed way is provided on the front to give extra support to the carriage during heavy cuts. The headstock is designed for reliability with three-point support for the full length of the spindle shaft. Operators benefit from a fully enclosed quick-change gearbox, which simplifies the threading process by allowing easy change of a wide range of inch, metric, MP, and DP threads without manual gear exchanges. Optional features include double chucks for holding extra-long workpieces and a power-driven tailstock unit for greater operational convenience.
