The machine’s foundation is a massive Meehanite cast iron base, ensuring maximum stability and rigidity during the heaviest cuts. It features an expansive work area with a 196-8 inch x 78-7 inch table capable of handling workpieces up to a maximum load of 39,600 lbs (18,000 kg). The travels are generous, offering 199-2 inches of X-axis travel (5,060 mm) and 84-6 inches of Y-axis travel (2,150 mm), with a substantial distance of 90-5 inches between columns. The headstock employs a hydraulic counterbalance system for smooth, precise movement.

At its core, the LB521 utilizes a reliable CAT50 geared-head spindle operating at 6,000 RPM. All axes maintain high-speed efficiency with a rapid feed rate of 787 inches per minute (20 m/min). Precision is guaranteed with a linear position accuracy of plus-minus 0-0006 inches (0-015 mm) over the full travel and a linear repeatability of plus-minus 0-0001 inches (0-003 mm). For complex work, the optional -YM model allows for five-face machining capabilities and features automatic tool changes in both vertical and horizontal orientations, accommodating optional headstock choices like 30-degree, 90-degree, extension, and manual universal heads. The standard Z-axis travel is 31-5 inches, but can be optionally extended up to 55-1 inches (1,400 mm).
