The Kingston HJ-1700 is a high-speed precision gap bed engine lathe built for demanding production environments and repair work. The machine provides a generous 17-inch swing over the bed, a 106-inch swing over the cross slide, and a large 24-inch swing in the gap accommodating varied workpiece sizes. With a 67-inch distance between centers and a heavy 1175-inch bed width, it offers substantial capacity and stability.

Power is delivered by a rugged 75 HP main motor driving a hardened and ground main spindle supported by a 3-point bearing system with taper roller bearings for precision. The spindle features a D1-6 Camlock nose with a standard 225-inch bore, which is upgradeable to a 307-inch bore for handling larger bar stock. The unique timing-belt-driven gearbox provides a quieter operation and offers 12 spindle speeds ranging from 35 to 2000 RPM. This gearbox provides 16 feed changes covering 44 kinds of inch threads (2 to 72 TPI) and 39 kinds of metric pitches (02 to 14mm,) all without changing gears. Both the bedways and cross slide are hardened and ground for exceptional wear resistance, ensuring long-term accuracy. Standard equipment includes a 10-inch 3-jaw scroll chuck, 4-way tool post, and a full-length splash guard, making the 3960-pound HJ-1700 a reliable and versatile machine tool.
