The Sharp 1660L is a high-precision, geared head manual lathe designed for durability and capacity. Its most significant feature is the 3.18-inch spindle bore, which is unique for a 16-inch swing lathe, allowing it to accommodate large diameter materials like 3-inch oil pipes. The machine offers a 16-inch swing over the bed and a 60-inch distance between centers. It is constructed with a single, one-piece Meehanite casting bed instead of connected legs, which effectively dampens vibration and ensures permanent straightness and accuracy of the bed ways.

The powerful 7.5 HP motor drives a 12-speed geared head, offering spindle speeds from 40 to 2,000 RPM. All headstock gears are hardened and ground from Chrome-Moly material for long-lasting power and accuracy, supported by high-precision angular contact bearings. The lathe provides a wide range of threads-and-feeds and includes a removable gap that increases the swing over the gap to 25.5 inches for short, large-diameter workpieces. Standard features include a coolant system, a full-length splash guard, and a 5-position carriage stop.
