The Sharp 1860L Precision Lathe is engineered for high-accuracy and heavy-duty turning operations. Its robust design features a one-piece Meehanite casting machine base, which significantly aids in dampening vibration and ensures the permanent straightness of the bed ways even under demanding conditions. A standout feature is the 318-inch spindle bore, offering the largest through-hole capacity among 18-inch swing lathes, allowing for the machining of most 3-inch diameter oil pipes. The machine has an 18-inch swing over the bed and a 60-inch distance between centers- with other center distances available- and the removable gap section provides an expanded swing of 2717 inches for larger, short-length workpieces.

The geared headstock is driven by a powerful 75 HP motor and provides 12 spindle speeds ranging from 40 to 2000 RPM. All headstock gears are made from Chrome-Moly material, hardened and ground for long-lasting power and accuracy. The spindle itself is supported by a high-precision pair of matched angular contact bearings at the front and rolling bearings at the rear, ensuring high spindle accuracy even during heavy cutting. Additional operational features include direct selection for inch-metric threads, a jog button on the headstock for easy gear engagement, and push-button knob lubrication for the carriage and cross slide ways.
