The Sharp 1860LV is a heavy-duty precision engine lathe designed for superior stability and capacity. Its core strength comes from a one-piece Meehanite casting bed—a construction method that ensures maximum dampening of vibration and permanent straightness of the bed ways, outperforming models with sheet metal legs. A defining feature is its 306-inch spindle bore—one of the largest in the 18-inch swing lathe class—which accommodates most 3-inch diameter oil pipes and offers greater versatility for machining different materials. The lathe has an 18-inch swing over the bed and a 60-inch distance between centers.

Powering the machine is a 75 HP spindle motor with a geared head that offers variable speed control from 20 to 2,000 RPM across high and low gear ranges. All headstock gears are made from hardened and ground Chrome-Moly material for long-lasting power and accuracy. The spindle is supported by high-precision matched angular contact bearings at the front for high accuracy, even under heavy cutting. The lathe includes features like direct selection for inch-metric threading and a removable gap that increases the swing over the gap to 2712 inches for short, large-diameter workpieces. Carriage and cross slide ways are lubricated via push-button knobs, and a five-position carriage stop is included for precise pre-positioning of feed distance.
