1880L Precision Lathe

The Sharp 1880L Precision Lathe is a heavy-duty, geared head machine built for precision and stability, offering a unique 318-inch spindle bore, which is the largest for 18-inch swing lathes, allowing it to accommodate materials like 3-inch oil pipes. The machine features an 18-inch swing over the bed and an 80-inch distance between centers, with optional center distances available. Its foundation is a one-piece Meehanite casting machine base, which is superior to sheet metal legs, ensuring excellent dampening of vibration and permanent straightness of the bed ways for heavy cutting operations. The D1-8 camlock spindle is powered by a 75 HP motor and delivers 12 spindle speeds ranging from 40 to 2000 RPM. All headstock gears are hardened and ground Chrome-Moly material for long-lasting accuracy, supported by a high-precision pair of matched angular contact bearings at the front. The carriage is equipped with push-button lubrication and a 5-position carriage stop for pre-positioning. The lathe also includes a removable gap to increase the swing to 2717 inches for machining short, large diameter workpieces, and offers direct selection for inch or metric threads.
