The Sharp 1880LV Precision Lathe is a geared-head lathe built for stability, accuracy, and heavy cutting of large materials. Its core strength comes from a one-piece Meehanite casting bed, which effectively dampens vibration and ensures the permanent straightness of the bed ways. The machine is uniquely designed with a 3-18 inch spindle bore and a D1-8 camlock spindle nose, allowing it to accommodate large diameter stock like 3-inch oil pipes. Power is delivered by a 7-5 HP motor, which drives the spindle across a wide, variable speed range of 20 to 2,000 RPM split into high and low gear settings for optimal cutting performance.

For enhanced precision and durability, all headstock gears are hardened and ground from Chrome-Moly material. The spindle is supported by high-precision matched angular contact bearings at the front, ensuring high accuracy even under heavy cutting conditions. The lathe features direct selection for both inch and metric threading and includes a removable gap to increase the swing over the bed to 27-12 inches for short, large diameter workpieces.
