The Sharp 5060M from the M24-50 Series is a high-capacity manual lathe built for extreme heavy-duty applications. Its structure is based on a massive, one-piece cast bed that is fully ribbed to ensure ultimate rigidity and prevent distortion, critical when turning parts with a 50-inch swing. The machine bed is 24 inches wide with induction hardened and ground ways, including an additional third bed way on the front for enhanced carriage support during aggressive cutting.

Equipped with a 30 HP main motor (with larger horsepower options available), the headstock features a robust design with three-point bearing support—one ball bearing and two tapered roller bearings—to maintain high spindle accuracy under load. The machine’s defining feature is its hollow spindle, which has a standard 6-inch bore and optional bores up to 15 inches, making it perfectly suited for processing large diameter pipes and long cylindrical parts. The headstock offers 16 spindle speed steps from a very low 4 RPM up to 420 RPM, delivering immense torque for large-part machining. The fully enclosed quick-change gearbox allows for an exceptionally broad range of threading without gear changes, covering Inch, Metric, Modular Pitch (MP), and Diametral Pitch (DP) standards. With a sturdy quill and large center taper, the MT 6 tailstock adds to the machine’s heavy-duty capability.
