The Sharp 22160B is a powerhouse among manual engine lathes, part of the 22-B-Series designed for demanding, high-capacity operations. It is built on a robust one-piece Meehanite cast bed with a generous 16-inch width, ensuring maximum vibration dampening and permanent bed way straightness. The machine’s key features include a 4-5 inch spindle bore and a D1-11 Camlock spindle nose, giving it excellent capacity for large diameter stock. The powerful 15 HP motor drives the headstock through 12 speeds ranging from 10 to 1,000 RPM, with the exceptionally low 10 RPM speed providing the necessary torque for heavy-duty cutting.

For dimensional stability and long-term accuracy, all headstock gears are made from hardened and ground Chrome-Moly material, and the spindle is supported by high-precision tapered roller bearings. The carriage sliding surfaces are coated with TURCITE to minimize wear and improve oil retention. This lathe offers a vast working range, capable of handling workpieces up to 160 inches long, and features a removable gap to increase the swing to 31 inches for larger, shorter workpieces. It also features a quick-change gearbox with direct selection for a wide range of inch and metric threads and is equipped with a jog button for easy gear engagement.
