The Sharp 22-B-Series Lathes, including the 2240B model, are engineered for heavy-duty industrial turning and large capacity jobs. The machine’s foundation is a one-piece Meehanite cast bed with a 16-inch wide design, ensuring maximum rigidity, vibration dampening, and permanent straightness of the bed ways. The headstock features a 4-5 inch spindle bore– one of the largest in this size of lathe- coupled with a D1-11 camlock spindle nose, providing great capacity for oversized materials. The powerful 15 HP motor drives the spindle through 12 speeds ranging from 10 to 1,000 RPM, with the low-end speeds generating enough torque for the heaviest cuts.

Precision and durability are key, as all headstock gears are made from hardened and ground Chrome-Moly material, and the spindle is supported by high-precision tapered roller bearings for exceptional accuracy under load. The carriage is coated with TURCITE for reduced bed wear and better oil retention, ensuring a long life. The quick-change gearbox offers direct selection for both inch and metric threads. Additionally, the lathe features a removable gap that increases the swing capacity to 31 inches for handling large, short-length parts.
