The 2280B Heavy Duty Lathe from the Sharp B-Series is a robust machine designed for handling large and demanding turning operations, from heavy material removal to high-precision threading. The lathe is constructed with a one-piece Meehanite cast bed that is 16 inches wide, ensuring superior vibration dampening and permanent alignment of the bed ways. The carriage is coated with TURCITE for reduced bed wear and improved oil retention, guaranteeing longer life and smoother operation.

A key feature is the massive 4-5 inch spindle bore with a D1-11 camlock spindle nose, which greatly expands the capacity for machining large-diameter materials like pipes and shafts. Power is supplied by a 15 HP motor, which drives the spindle through 12 speeds ranging from 10 to 1,000 RPM, with the low-speed range offering the necessary torque for heavy cutting. All headstock gears are manufactured from hardened and ground Chrome-Moly material, and the spindle is supported by high-precision tapered roller bearings for lasting accuracy. The machine includes a quick-change gearbox for direct selection of a wide range of inch, metric, modular, and diametral pitch threads. Additionally, a removable gap increases the swing to 31 inches for short-term, larger-diameter turning.
