The Sharp 3040B Heavy Duty Lathe is built for extreme rigidity and capacity, featuring a 30-inch swing over the bed and a 40-inch center distance, making it ideal for machining large diameter components that require a shorter bed length. Its solid foundation is a one-piece Meehanite cast bed with a substantial 15-75 inch bed width that ensures superior vibration dampening and permanent bed straightness. The machine is powered by a robust 15 HP motor, which drives the spindle through 12 stepped speeds from a slow, high-torque 10 RPM up to 1,000 RPM. The headstock is designed for durability and accuracy with a large 4-5 inch spindle bore and a D1-11 Camlock nose, and all internal gears are made from hardened and ground Chrome-Moly material. The carriage sliding surface is coated with TURCITE to reduce bed wear and enhance oil retention for extended machine life. For oversized work, the lathe includes a removable gap to increase the swing capacity to 39 inches. It offers a wide range of inch and metric threading capabilities via a quick-change gearbox.
